Metal Ore is a type of resource that once refined, can be used as a crafting material in construction or in the fabrication of certain items.

Obtaining[]

Metal Ore can be obtained by miningthat spawn in the world.

It can also be obtained by gathering small, loose rocks, typically found on the ground. Rocks gathered this way will reward the player with 50 metal ore.

Refining[]

A Furnace or Large Furnace can be used to smelt the ore into Metal Fragments.

Metal Fragments are a type of resource, used mainly in the crafting of various items or as a building material in player made structures. The main, and by far easiest and safest way to obtain metal fragments are to mine Metal Ore from Rocks, then smelt the ore using a Furnace or Large Furnace.

Other ways metal fragments can be obtained include:

  • Breaking down items in a Recycler
  • Smelting/cooking empty cans
  • Looting other players
  • Melting metal ore

Metal fragments are extensively used in crafting and repair, and just some of the many uses include:

High Quality Metal Ore is a valuable natural resource, mostly for its capability to be smelted by Furnace into the important High Quality Metal. It smelts in 20 seconds requiring approximately 10 wood, maximized by the Large Furnace High Quality Metal Ore is the rarest ore by far. It used to be available from any type of Rock; depending on the node type, one or three could be found. Since Devblog 166, it is only available as the final mining strike bonus from Metal Rocks. These changes push players towards harvesting with a Mining Quarry.

Obtaining[]

High Quality Metal Ore can be obtained by mining rock Nodes or by setting up a Mining Quarry.

The ore is more common in the Arctic region than the Arid region.

High Quality Metal (HQM) is a resource that is obtained by smelting High Quality Metal Ore in a Furnace. Small amounts of High Quality Metal can also be found from Loot Crates or by recycling certain Components.

Uses[]

High Quality Metal is a very uncommon type of resource, and is used in the crafting of many high-end weapons, such as the Rocket Launcher, as well as metal armor like the Metal Facemask. High Quality Metal is also used to upgrade walls and doors into the Armored tier.
